Sickles are used for cutting herbs for long time. Primarily it was believed, that herbs cut by something else, lose their magic power. These tools became common amongst peasants and after some ages evolved to scythes. Although, it is still used for cutting grain. It is rarely used as a weapon because of small cutting surface. Even its sharpened it needs to use big force to puncture the armor.
